1) DISCUSSION POST

For this week’s discussion, we will explore common mental health disorders. Select a disorder from the list below that you are not familiar with, meaning you or another person you know does not have this disorder. In other words, select a disorder that you would like to know more about. In your post:

  • Identify the disorder that you selected.
  • Write about what characterizes that disorder. (What are the symptoms?)
  • Describe what makes you curious about this disorder.

Choose from this list of disorders:

  • Substance Use Disorder
  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  • Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
  • Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
  • Insomnia Disorder
  • Agoraphobia
  • Dyslexia
  • Anorexia
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder

Learning about a disorder that you are not familiar with can help you to understand the range of disorders that are present in modern-day society. It can also give you an idea of the various ways in which psychological disorders affect others.

Note: If you are already familiar with these disorders, you can either choose one to research and learn more about, or you can choose a different disorder.

Choose from one on Psych Central’s site: Symptoms & Treatments of Mental Disorders.

2) PEER REVIEW #1 ( Patricia)

Hello Fellow Classmates,

This week’s discussion has been very interesting and engaging, to say the least. I felt like this week’s webtext was digging into a piece of my life that few people know about. I do see that I know some of the terms here on the list, however, the discussion asks us to pick one we do not know. I have chosen to do my discussion on Dyslexia. I am in some sort familiar with the term dyslexia, and I also do remember it being labeled as a reading disorder. However, I wanted to learn more about the disorder and found that not only do people who have this disorder have trouble recognizing letters but numbers can be difficult for them as well. In the searches, I did learn that Dyslexia is more likely a condition that someone inherits genetically. It can be fairly easy to diagnose if a child has difficulty reading aloud, or pronouncing words, or it a child has difficulty spelling. I found this particular order interesting and the reason why I remember hearing about it is watching American Idol and seeing that celebrity singer Fantasia has the disease. I can’t imagine being a singer having to read contracts, lyrics, music notes, but not being able to simply because I have a condition that causes my words to get a little mixed up. I honestly believe in just having that scenario take place where I am a singer and I am trying to read lyrics for a big performance but can’t because of the Dyslexia would cause me to have more conditions and disorders like anxiety over the simple fact that I don’t want to mess up.

3) PEER REVIEW #2(JOHANNE)

Professor and Class,

The disorder that I decided to discuss is agoraphobia. This anxiety disorder is the fear of places and situations that could cause people to feel helpless, embarrassed, scared, panicked, or trapped. It is said that only 0.8 percent of adults in the US have this disorder. Some of the symptoms include panic attacks, which include chest pain, shortness of breath, sweating dizziness, and being nauseous, to name a few. People often acknowledge that this fear is irrational, but they cannot do anything to stop it. There is no exact cause, but there are people who are more at risk than others if they are depressed, have other phobias such as social or claustrophobia. Also, the reason I was curious about this disorder is that I did not know much about it and also the fact that I do not know anyone personally who has this type of disorder.-Johanne Arpin

Organizational Decisions

Provide examples of organizations making the following levels of decisions: strategic decisions, tactical decisions, and operational decisions. What was the result of these decisions? Detail the impact of the following decision-making models: rational decision-making model, bounded rationality decision-making model, the intuitive decision-making model, and the creative decision-making mode. How does each decision-making model help improve a company’s effectiveness?

2) PEER REVIEW #1 (IMANI)

Hello!

Since I always relate my post to my real-life work, I should let everyone know I now work in direct to consumer marketing instead of restaurant management! In my organization, there is a strategy for everything. Everything that my peers and I do within the organization requires decision making, but most of the time we use the creative decision-making model. I have to make a decision based on the situation I find myself in and whom I am trying to persuade. For example, for marketing, Vivint Smart Home, not everyone cares for security, so I can talk about its smart home features as well.
